Melissa Sahagian is a published author and television screenwriter with a focus on comedy and animation. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emerson College after graduating early in December 2016. She majored in Visual Media Arts with a concentration in Writing for Film and Television. During her time at Emerson, she was nominated for the Jess Ilias Clavelli Comedy Award as well as a 2017 EVVY nomination for Outstanding Writing for Film.
Melissa co-founded Bad Fan Club, a comedy lab consisting of writers and artists who are passionate about the content they consume and create. With Bad Fan Club, Melissa co-authored and published her first book, Bad Fan Fiction, in November 2018. The book is a collection of comedic original fan fiction and fan art.
Melissa's kids' animated pilot, Maplecove Manor, was a semifinalist in ScreenCraft's 2024 Animation and Family Competition, The Script Lab's 2023 Screenplay Competition, and WeScreenplay’s Spring 2021 Diverse Voices Competition, a quarterfinalist in WeScreenplay’s 2022 TV Contest, and a second rounder in Launch Pad’s 2022 Pilot Competition. It currently ranks in the top 3% of all projects on Coverfly and recently ranked #3 on Coverfly’s Red List for Animated Television (Half-Hour) and #9 in Animation (Overall). Melissa was a finalist in the 2024 Sesame Workshop Writers’s Room Program.
Melissa is based in Los Angeles and currently works as an Executive Coordinator at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios; a production company and animation studio in Burbank, CA. She is an active member of Women in Animation.
